This is by far the best laptop I've used in the last 10 years!!
Over the past decade, the number of business trips has increased, and so have the opportunities to work on laptops. Naturally, the demands on laptops have also increased.
In the past, we have started with ASUS's ultra-thin notebook, then evolved to VAIO, Lenovo's YOGA, VAIOZ, and Lenovo's X1carbon.
The things I absolutely care about are the following:
・13.5 to 14 inch slim type (the largest and lightest A4 size that can be easily carried around)
・It can input with a pen. (You can explain things at design seminars without a whiteboard. It is also useful for giving other lectures. It is also easy to respond to urgent requests from the company to check drawings when you are on a business trip.)
・Absolutely Windows (I use a lot of useful software that can only be used on Windows. Also, some of the software is unstable or heavy to run on a Mac)
- Stable and fast operation
・As long as the above is met, it is better if the design is beautiful.
That's about it.
To recap, the ASUS computer is the oldest, but it was really great at the time. It felt like a Windows version of the MacBook Air, with its design, thinness, and lightness. However, the micrHDMI connector was too delicate and eventually snapped and became unusable.
The VAIO (from the Sony era, before it was spun off) was good overall, but it had terrible compatibility issues with projectors. It was a flop, with about 1/3 of the rooms not connecting. I didn't have any other complaints, but it was a fatal blow to me and I retired it early.
The keyboard position on the Lenovo Yoga was so peculiar that it was extremely frustrating for me, who typed without touch. Other than that, it was good, but that was a drawback and I couldn't use it for long.
VAIOZ was very good after it separated from Sony. I can say with confidence that it was the second best computer after the one I'm using now. It's fast, easy to use, has a beautiful design, and is stable. The touch of the pen input is also excellent. It hasn't had a model change since about 2015, but if it had been changed, I would have bought this one.
The one I used before was the LENOVO X1carbon. I had high hopes for it, but it was a disappointment. First of all, there were too many problems with the OS and it was quite unstable. I was also looking forward to the built-in SIM, but the connection and startup were quite unstable. The touch and sensitivity of the pen input were also very poor. Other than that, it wasn't bad, but when those things were bad, it was quite stressful to use it. It was quite expensive, but I retired it within a year.
So, this time I chose Microsoft's Surface laptop 3.
I fell in love at first sight with this product at a home electronics retailer in front of Yurakucho Station. However, I'm not the type of person who makes an immediate decision just because I fell in love at first sight. After I got home, I looked into it and found that the contents were great, so I bought it right away.
The deciding factors were the following:
・An overwhelmingly beautiful design. In short, it's like the Windows version of the Macbook Pro.
- Pen input feels incredibly smooth
- CPU performance is the highest among thin PCs currently available
- It has a function called Modern Standby that starts up instantly. You can start using it the moment you open it, just like an iPad or smartphone, so you'll want to use it even in your spare time. The facial recognition is so good that you can start using it intuitively within 0.3 seconds.
I had checked the above at an electronics store, but my impressions after actually using it are as follows.
・It's a little heavy because of the high quality, but it's within the acceptable range.
- Design is prioritized, so there are few connectors, but this can be overcome with an adapter.
・Stability, speed, and compatibility issues are all perfect
- Often mistaken for Mac
・I've gotten better at using my spare time
・Whenever I use a computer, I feel good because the design is beautiful and the operation is smooth. I spend more time using it.
- Battery life also passed
- Compatible with mobile battery PD
・The keyboard is a little shallow, but the layout is normal so it's not a problem
So I'll probably replace it every 2-3 years, but unless VAIOZ comes out with something really amazing in the future, I'll probably keep replacing this model forever.
