"Probability of Nankai Trough earthquake occurring within the next 30 years will increase slightly to 70-80%"
From this morning's Nikkei newspaper
The government's Earthquake Investigation Committee announced this yesterday, the 9th.
As of January 1st this year, the probability of a massive earthquake of magnitude 8 to 9 occurring has increased slightly compared to last year, resulting in the latest results.
This probability increases little by little over time, so unless an earthquake occurs, it will increase every year.
The same can be said about the Great Kanto Earthquake that occurred off the southeast coast of Hokkaido and was announced recently.
With that in mind, as I always say, when building a house within these three areas, choosing to build a house with a seismic resistance rating of lower than 3 is a gamble on your life that is as risky as, or even more risky than, driving a car without purchasing optional insurance.
