We insulated the roof of our camper!

I've been wanting to insulate my camper for a while now. I only had time to do this during the Obon and New Year holidays, so I spent the whole day today doing most of it.

Camper insulation installation Custom-built homes in Kobe City

The photo shows the ceiling after it was removed and insulation was applied to only a portion of the roof. As you can see, the ceiling was just a single ribbed metal plate with about 1mm of sweater-like fiber insulation stuck to it with double-sided tape for decoration. We removed it all and added 15mm, which is the maximum thickness. This gives the roof the same insulation as most new homes in the world.

Recently, high-end campervans are being thoroughly insulated. This is because serious campervan manufacturers are well aware that it would be difficult to live comfortably without it. Here is an example:

When I went out for an overnight trip once in the fall, I was surprised at how cold it was from above in the morning due to radiative cooling. There was also a lot of condensation on the windows. We have special insulation mats for the windows, which improves the warmth considerably. But water vapor relentlessly reaches the cold windows, so of course condensation relentlessly occurs. There were four of us sleeping in the small car at the time, including my daughter's friend, so the amount of water vapor was high, so this was a natural result.

So, I'm going to go on a camping trip to Wakayama from the 2nd to check the results. So, I ended up doing insulation even on my day off.
