What I felt when I interacted with Vietnamese people and their homes (2)
There was a problem at the site this morning, and we apologize for the inconvenience caused to our customers.
So, I rushed to the site in the afternoon and it took me half a day to finish up the job.
In the evening, Mr. Araki from Green Bridge came from Tokyo, so we gathered together for a social gathering.
It's been a while, but I'll post the second part of my Vietnam travelogue.
I'll list below some of my impressions when I saw the local houses.
・The top floor is a balcony, and there is no door to the entrance...
It looks like a huge hole of about 1m x 2m is on the top floor.
Since it is not a completely equatorial country, it can get as cold as 10 to 15 degrees Celsius in January and February.
It seems to be quite cold during that time of the year. However, I don't have a heating device and I don't have the money to pay for heating.
So, I had to endure it by wearing thick clothes and putting up with it.
It seems sloppy, and of course there's a lot of leaking from this huge opening.
It seemed like that.
・Most homes have rainwater tanks or rainwater filters on the top floor balconies.
The rainwater filtration system is a concrete structure measuring about 50cm square.
From the bottom up, there is fine sand, medium sand, gravel, and between each layer is a mesh sheet like a screen door.
It was a very primitive device, with just a filter sandwiched between two pieces of paper.
I'm still using the ground one.
- Nearly 100% of the homes are made of reinforced concrete and are uninsulated, so there is a lot of moisture there for most of the year.
As a result, almost 100% of houses suffered from internal condensation, especially around February.
Some high-income earners are voicing their desire to "do something about this."
It's starting to rise.
・There is no finishing touch to the interior or exterior. It is just exposed concrete.
It is not at all as beautiful as the exposed concrete finish of the previous building. It is a very rough and dirty finish.
That feeling
-The floors are mostly tiled, which is probably because it's hot and humid.
・Even though it was May, it was as hot as July in Japan. There were huge electric fans everywhere.
It was common to cool down by turning on the fan. It seems that ordinary people almost never had air conditioners. Also, every room was full of grilles and gaps, so even if there was an air conditioner, it would probably not work.
・In the countryside, in addition to agriculture, they also raise livestock such as chickens, pigs, and cows as a valuable source of protein. Not only that, I was surprised to learn that they also eat dogs. I knew that Korea has a culture of eating dogs, but I didn't know that Vietnam has it too. When it comes to food alone, it seems that every household is almost self-sufficient. However, there are still some basic things that need to be purchased to survive, and there is money that is absolutely necessary, such as medical care, so from that perspective, it seems that cash income is essential.
