What kind of houses built 30 years ago can still be seen today?
As long as the budget allows and as long as the client is able to maintain it, we would like to design without using pre-made products as much as possible. The cheaper the house, and the larger the company, the stronger the tendency to use pre-made products. However, when pre-made products are used, the "trend" and "sense of the times" of the time are inevitably strongly reflected. Also, pre-made products are most beautiful when they are made, and they do not become more attractive from that point onwards, but simply get dirty.
Most of the houses I visit for renovations are over 20 years old. In such houses, if there are many prefabricated products, it is easy to determine when the house was built based on the prefabricated products. However, if there are few prefabricated products, it is difficult to tell. Moreover, if the house is designed with good taste, it will have a certain flavor that comes with age.
On a different note, recently there has been an increase in homes with a simple modern look (although I think there are also homes with a simple modern look that are not simple). I think this style is a perfect fit for the current era, and for a home for a client in their mid-30s who is raising children.
However, if you think about it in terms of clothing, you will be surprised. Would you be able to see or wear the clothes that were popular 30 years ago? Of course, trends sometimes repeat themselves. However, most of the time, there are things that make you wonder, "Why was that popular back then?"
Even if we could clear that hurdle, everyone will eventually become a grandfather or grandmother. Can a design that is geared toward the younger generation, those in their mid-30s, be worn (lived in) comfortably by grandfathers and grandmothers?
Also, it may look like a sleek design at the time, but as time goes on, that sleek design tends to get even sleeker. At least that's how it's always been. Nowadays, there are more and more advanced designs that have an organic, plant-like feel, or that blend in with nature, rather than being sleek, so maybe the sleek look has reached its limit.
However, in every era, I have seen so many buildings that looked sleek in their day, but as the years go by, you start to think, "That was popular back then..."
"Houses from 30 years ago" are things we can still see today, and I think it is very important for both those who are designing and those who are building a house to understand and have an idea of what the house is like.
