2033: The future world as seen through maps
I read this book about two months ago, but there are many things I didn't know.
It is also a masterpiece with beautiful graphics. I would highly recommend it.
I have a lot of things on my mind to write about every day, so this introduction is late.
There's a lot of data, and it's presented in beautiful, unique graphs.
That alone is worth seeing.
I'll just pick out the things that particularly caught my attention.
By 2040, the proportion of white people in America will fall below 50%.
In the mid-19th century, 90% of the world's population lived in rural areas.
The population is currently around half that, but is expected to reach 5 billion by 2033.
- Soil degradation continues around the world
In particular, by 2025, two-thirds of arable land in sub-Saharan countries will
Expected to be barren
- Hydroelectric power generation wastes four times as much water as thermal power generation and 1.8 times as much water as nuclear power generation.
・Areas where water is already scarce will see further shortages
- Farmland and pastures are increasing, while forests are decreasing
- In the future, limit the annual flying distance per person
A personal flight distance measurement system may be introduced
And so on.
What I've read so far
"Collapse of Civilization" by Dr. Jared Diamond
"The History of Earthen Civilization" by Dr. David Montgomery
The content was exactly the same.
All these authors have an extraordinary breadth of knowledge and insight.
After that, he conducted field research around the world and wrote the content based on that.
Although each book is different, ultimately the global environment is a vital part of human life.
There is no longer any doubt that it is the most important capital of all.
I am well aware that energy, GDP, and security are all important.
However, the most important thing for humans to survive is water.
Food. Food is nothing without soil.
To put it the other way around, if you want to know about soil, read "The History of Civilization of Soil."
is a must read.
Finally, on the cover of this book
"If we act now, we can still change the future"
It says, "That's absolutely true."
